Restaurant and Bar Millwork in Los Angeles

Restaurants and bars

Element Decor is a family-owned millwork shop in Chatsworth, working since 2014. We build feature walls, slat walls and slat ceilings, curved fronts and wood panelling for restaurants, bars and cafes across Los Angeles County and Ventura County, drawn and built in our own shop and installed by our own crew.

A restaurant asks more of wood than a home does: steam, grease, constant cleaning, sprinklers and lighting overhead, and an opening date that does not move. The details below come from finished work in Los Angeles that faced the same demands.

What a dining room wall has to take

Near a kitchen or a bar, an open grain holds grease. On a kitchen partition we built in Calabasas (December 2025), the face toward the range has a closed, wipeable surface and a core specified for heat and humidity, while the other face is matched to it visually. A bar front or a wall beside the pass needs the same thinking.

Overhead, a slat ceiling has to work around what is already in the ceiling. On a clinic in West Hollywood (February 2024) the slats were set out around the existing services, lighting runs in the voids between them, and the drivers stay reachable so the lights can be maintained without taking slats down. In a dining room the sprinkler layout goes on the table when the ceiling is drawn, and your sprinkler designer confirms it.

Hard floors, glass and a full room make noise. Slat walls and ceilings can take an acoustic felt backing where the room needs it, which softens the sound of the room.

Restaurant millwork questions

What does restaurant millwork cost in Los Angeles?

A paneled feature wall in one material usually runs $4,000 to $10,000, and complex walls with mixed materials, inlay, curves or light run $15,000 to $20,000. Slat ceilings and multi-area scopes are priced from the drawings, with lighting priced separately.

Which finish works near a kitchen or a bar?

A closed, wipeable surface rather than an open grain that holds grease, on a core chosen for heat and humidity. That is how we built the kitchen face of a partition in Calabasas.

Can a slat ceiling have lighting built in?

Yes. On a clinic ceiling in West Hollywood the lighting runs in the voids between the slats and the drivers stay reachable, so the lights can be maintained without taking slats down.

What about sprinklers?

The slats are laid out around the sprinkler heads. Bring the sprinkler layout when the ceiling is drawn and have your sprinkler designer confirm the plan.

What fire rating do the panels need?

Your architect or designer confirms the class the room requires; tell us at the quote stage. Fire-retardant treated products are made for higher classes and carry a label.

Can you make a loud dining room quieter?

Slat walls and ceilings can take an acoustic felt backing where the room needs it, which softens the sound of a room with hard floors and glass.

How long does it take?

4 to 6 weeks of production after the shop drawings are approved. Tell us your opening date at the start, so production and installation can be planned around it.

Send the floor plan, the elevations or a finish schedule, and your opening date. You get back shop drawings, a price and a schedule before anything is cut.
