What actually happens on site
A slat wall fails in one of three places: the joints, the fixing and the services. Joints go wrong when panel widths come from a carton rather than from the wall. Fixings go wrong when the backing is a textile and every screw has to find a batten behind it. Services go wrong when a socket or a bracket is discovered after the panel is cut.
We template the real wall after the drywall is up, then set the panel widths so joints land on a corner, a door head or the edge of a television, and cut the veneer so the grain runs across those joints rather than restarting at each one. The backing is painted MDF or the same veneer as the slats, so a fixing can go anywhere on the panel and the gap between slats reads as shadow rather than fabric.
Sockets, switches, TV brackets and cable routes are set out on the drawing before anything is cut. On site the panels go up dry fitted, which is why installation is measured in a day or two rather than a week of adjustment.

How an installation runs
- Site visit and templateReal dimensions from the real wall, plus the position of every service that has to pass through it.
- Drawings and 3D previewPanel widths, joint positions and slat spacing shown before anything is cut.
- Sample approvalVeneer and finish in hand, so the colour decision happens off site.
- Fabrication and dry fitPanels are assembled in the Chatsworth shop and dry fitted before they are loaded.
- InstallationOur crew fits, scribes and finishes. Most single wall projects are a one or two day fit.
- HandoverOne number to call afterwards, since the shop that built it is the shop that fitted it.
Questions
Can you install panels I bought elsewhere?
We install what we build. A boxed felt backed panel is fixed differently, and we cannot stand behind the joints or the finish of a panel we did not make.
How long does a wall take to fit?
A single wall is usually a one or two day fit, because the panels arrive dry fitted rather than cut on site.
Will there be visible joints?
On a wall wider than a single panel, yes, but they land where the room already has a line and the grain runs across them.
Can a television be mounted on it?
Yes. Tell us at the drawing stage and the bracket position, the cable route and any ventilation are built into the panel.
Do the slats help with sound?
Felt backing behind the slats absorbs rather than reflects, and the gap between slats is what lets sound reach it. The two are specified together.
What if my wall is not flat?
Very few are. The template records what is actually there and the panels are scribed to it on site.
