Much of Pacific Palisades is being rebuilt after the January 2025 fire. Element Decor, a family-owned millwork shop in Chatsworth since 2014, makes the interior woodwork for those houses: wall panels, built-ins, media walls, wood ceilings and room dividers, drawn from your architect's set in our own shop and installed by our own crew. Built-in cabinetry for those houses, from closets and bookcases to home office built-ins and storage walls, is made in the same veneer as the panels around it.

A wall we built here

One finished project here: walnut panels divided by vertical brass strips. On that wall the brass does two jobs at once. It draws the eye upward, and it lands exactly on the panel joints, so what would otherwise be a seam becomes a deliberate line. That only works if the panel widths come from the room rather than from a standard sheet size.

The spacing was calculated so the strips fall at even intervals across the whole wall, and so neither end of the run finishes on an awkward sliver. The strips are flush with the veneer, set into a machined groove, so the wall reads as one surface under your hand rather than as panels with trim laid over the joints. Completed July 2022.

A new house works the same way, only at the scale of every room: the layout comes from the drawings and the real walls, not from a catalog.

Questions about rebuilds

Do you build millwork for Pacific Palisades rebuilds?

Yes. We make wall panels, built-ins, media walls, wood ceilings and room dividers for new homes from the architect's or designer's drawings, build them in our Chatsworth shop and install them with our own crew.

When should millwork be planned in a rebuild?

Early. Send the drawings during design so fixings, power for media walls and lighting channels can be set out before framing closes. We template on site after drywall, and production takes 4 to 6 weeks after the shop drawings are approved.

Can you work from our architect's drawings?

Yes, that is the normal case on a new house. We issue shop drawings from your elevations for mark up before production starts.

Can the whole house use the same veneer?

Yes. Veneer, core and finish are chosen once and bought from one batch, so panels in different rooms match.

Do you coordinate with our general contractor?

Yes. Cut outs, fixings, lighting and services are set out on the shop drawings, and the work is delivered and installed in the sequence the site needs.

What does custom millwork cost?

Every job is quoted from its own drawings. As a guide, simple paneled walls run $4,000 to $10,000, more complex walls $15,000 to $20,000, and room dividers $4,000 to $8,000. Options such as lighting are priced separately.

Do you offer a discount for families rebuilding after the fire?

Yes. Element Decor is listed in the Team Palisades Vendor Discount Program. Families whose homes were affected by the January 2025 fire get 15% off the pieces we build, materials and shop work included, through December 2027. Installation and delivery are billed at the regular rate. We confirm eligibility from your FEMA letter before the estimate is signed. One discount per family and project, and it is not combined with trade pricing.

Do you install in Pacific Palisades?

Yes, with our own crew, the same people who dry fit the work in the shop before it ships.

Do you build built-in cabinetry in Pacific Palisades?

Yes. We design, build and install built-in cabinetry for Pacific Palisades homes, including rebuilds after the January 2025 fire. Closets, bookcases, home office built-ins and storage walls are built in our Chatsworth shop and installed by our own crew. Outlets and lighting inside a built-in are set out on the shop drawings before anything is built.

What do built-ins cost in Pacific Palisades?

Built-ins are quoted per project, so the ranges here are only a guide. Built-in bookshelves and library walls run $500 to $1,200 per linear foot installed, a media wall with storage $5,000 to $15,000, complex media walls up to $30,000, and a walk-in closet $2,500 to $8,000. In a Pacific Palisades rebuild we buy the veneer for the whole house from one batch, so built-ins match the panels.
